The growing use of mobile data capture applications—such as wearable data-loggers and GPS fleet management systems—creates large amounts of environmental health and safety (EHS) data. This information can be used to forecast future performance and come up with possible solutions to EHS challenges. However, EHS professionals face two major obstacles — a lack of data analytics training and a lack of data standardization in the field.

In this workshop, attendees will:

  • Identify the present state of “big data” in the EHS profession
  • Form working groups that include stakeholders from industry, government, academia, and professional organizations
  • Establish a criteria for data analytics courses designed for EHS professionals and for standardized data collection
  • Identify ethical dilemmas
